ADIPEC 2019: Seize the Opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Age

Nov 2019 | Al Mazroui
From the 11th to the 14th of November 2019, the 35th edition of ADIPEC focused on strategies for the oil and gas industry to embrace the Fourth Industrial Age, particularly through innovative and disruptive technologies.

How to Embrace the Fourth Industrial Age?

The last edition of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition Conference (ADIPEC) featured 161 conference sessions along with more than 2,200 exhibiting companies. It was the largest exhibition in ADIPEC’s 35-year history, spanning 155,000 sqm gross and welcoming 155,000 visitors (a 7 percent growth) in four days. This year’s theme was “Oil & Gas 4.0 – Rising to Meet the Energy Needs of Tomorrow.”

As the world enters the Fourth Industrial Age, the demand for energy is increasing at an unprecedented rate. The oil and gas sector remains essential and a key enabler of tomorrow’s global economy.

Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Group CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), delivering the opening keynote address, called on the oil and gas industry to modernise in order to face upcoming changes, in a fast-evolving landscape. Dr Al Jaber declared that “this era of disruption is just the beginning and will only gather pace over time.” To adapt to the Fourth Industrial Age, the UAE Minister of State believes the petroleum industry needs to operate at a lower level of cost and a higher level of performance, bring digital into the core of its operations and make sustainability a priority. For the energy transition to a lower carbon world to be successful, oil should be supplied in ways that minimise its impact on the environment. Nowadays, an increasing number of countries, jurisdictions and companies are announcing targets to ensure that the oil and gas sector meets certain environmental targets.

With the changing nature of supply and demand, new energy trading maps and electrification, professionals of the sector have to find new ways of working. To seize the opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Age, the petroleum industry needs to implement disruptive and innovative technologies.

ADIPEC 2019: A Blueprint for the Oil & Gas Industry

With 980 speakers from around the world and over 200 strategic and technical sessions, ADIPEC provided, this year again, one of the most comprehensive conference programmes in the world. On its exhibition side, ADIPEC is the place to be to showcase and learn about innovative technologies which drive the oil and gas industry forward.

Present at the exhibition was Kairos3D, a cutting-edge real-time 3D development company. Kairos3D believes that there is a mandatory step toward the Industry 4.0 as digitalisation changes everything. This is why its team created Gilgamesh: a real-time 3D proprietary software platform. This state-of-the-art software offers interactive and immersive 3D CAD (computer-aided design) mobile solutions to support construction, pre-commissioning, operations and maintenance. It also allows low cost simulations of operations through virtual reality for industrial operators, immersive product experiences for brand innovation and high-fidelity simulators for education and research. Always looking for innovative solutions for the Emirati market, Al Mazroui Engineering, a company of the Al Mazroui Group, brings the Italian brand’s solutions to the UAE.

With the 3D experiences provided by Gilgamesh, the Torino-based company offers its customers to stay ahead of the competition by becoming 4.0 digital enterprises. ADNOC and BP (British Petroleum) have already used chosen Kairos3D.

With its 35th edition, ADIPEC proved again to be a worldwide force in displaying innovative technologies and providing a forum for the oil and gas leadership. These four days were the occasion to establish new strategies for the future of the industry.
