Herend Porcelain in Abu Dhabi: Hungary and the UAE Come Together

The Al Mazroui Group has reached out to partner with the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, creating Herend UAE. Earlier this year, the first-ever Herend boutique in the Arab world has been opened in Abu Dhabi. Plans to expand to the wider GCC market are already being considered.

His love for Herend porcelain is what inspired Saeed Rashed Al Mazroui, vice-chairman of the Al Mazroui Group to bring the iconic Hungarian brand to the United Arab Emirates.

A Successful Project Despite Current Challenges

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Al Mazroui Group managed to adapt to an unprecedented situation and carry on with its activities. It has thus been able to preserve its existing projects and to develop new ones, bringing Herend to the United Arab Emirates is one of them. Finding the right location for the boutique, taking care of the fit-out and recruiting the staff: everything was done despite the pandemic. The project was finalised by the opening of Herend’s debut boutique earlier this year in Abu Dhabi.  Ideally located in the exclusive shopping centre Avenue at Etihad Towers, the shop reflects Herend’s 200 years of tradition and innovation, offering the most luxurious handmade and hand-painted porcelain pieces.

Since large gatherings are still not allowed for safety reasons, the grand opening had to be postponed and replaced by virtual events on social media. In Hungary, the opening was celebrated in the local press with several articles about the fist-ever Herend boutique in the Arab world.

An exclusive and safe shopping experience in the heart of Abu Dhabi

Avenue at Etihad Towers is an exclusive shopping centre on the capital’s Corniche, metres away from the Emirates Palace. Away from large crowds, it offers a safer shopping experience with sanitisation booths in all its different entrances. Moreover, the shopping centre’s staff has to be tested frequently. Finally, to ensure social distancing, only four guests are allowed in the Herend boutique at the same time.

The ambassador of Hungary in the UAE, H.E. Mr Osama Naffá, was personally invited by Mr Saeed Rashed Al Mazroui to the Herend boutique. The ambassador was pleased to visit the boutique and to witness first-hand the beginnings of this source of national pride in the Arab world. ‘I’m very happy to be in the first Herend boutique in the Gulf region, here in Abu Dhabi, and that the Franchisee is an Emirati national. I hope that you will soon open in Dubai and in the order GCC countries’ he declared.
