3 Sleep Myths – Busted!

May 2017 | Al Mazroui
It’s no wonder there are so many pervasive myths about sleep when it seems to be a fierce competition in making stories about it, either they are springing from the boardless imagination of our friends, published in life magazines or spread by the “all-knowing social media experts”.

The folk wisdom that they promote still prevails and is encouraged by homespun advice, even though scientists have been digging into the “modern sleep” secrets since the 20th century.

Away from the thought of disagreeing with their friends or influencers, SWEDE DREAMS myths busters took a closer look to the scientific discoveries, separated a lot of the fiction from the truth and designed revolutionary mattresses concepts to give the best sleep ever.

Let’s see how they did it!

Myth 1 – “Teenagers are lazy and love lying in bed”.
Disturbing the cozy sleep of a teenager is a risk of raising their anger to a universal storm level, but in fact they are right. At first sight their sloth and laziness are to be blamed for the unwillingness of getting out of bed in the morning. Actually science showed that they need around 9-10 hours of sleep as opposed to an average of 7-8 hours for most adults because during the years of puberty a 2-3 hours delay occurs in the circadian rhythms, particularly males.
Thinking about how to help the sleepy teenagers to overcome this biological change, SWEDE DREAMS focused on memory foam based collections, the advantage being that every point of the body bears the same amount of pressure - no more tweaked necks or numb pressure points when waking up in the morning.

Myth 2 – “Eating turkey sends us to sleep”.
Who knows what a “turkey coma” is about? Well, this phenomenon occurs after the heavy meals, especially during national holidays or annual festivals, when relatives gathered around the table start falling into a post-dining slumber. The massive ingestion of protein, carbohydrates and beverages provokes it.
But sleeping causes body moisture especially after these happy celebrations, so SWEDE DREAMS came with the solution of using latex rubber in mattresses’ manufacturing and it performs incredibly well in these moments. This will keep the bodies warm during the cold winters and at the same time will maintain coolness during summer months thus guaranteeing a peaceful night sleep.

Myth 3 – “Sleeping less keeps us thin”.
It may sound reasonable to assume that spending less time sleeping means having a more active lifestyle, burning up more calories and therefore staying fitter and trimmer. In fact science shows the contrary, cutting back on sleep can increase the chance of becoming overweight because the lack of sleep suppresses the natural appetite-depressants, while fueling appetite-increasers, often leading to weight gain.
So, instead of sleep sacrifice, better resting well on a mattress from SWEDE DREAMS with individual pocketed springs that follow the natural curves of the body, enabling adequate support and comfort.
