The first phase commenced in 2016 with the transport of granulated Sulphur from Shah and Habshan to Ruwais along a 264 km track. By 2020, a major expansion connected the western border of Abu Dhabi at Ghuweifat to the eastern port of Fujairah, completing the national network.

Now, with construction of the passenger stations nearly finalized, the passenger service is set to begin next year—fulfilling a 17-year national ambition and bringing communities across the Emirates closer than ever before.
