Happy 100th Anniversary, Buss-SMS-Canzler! (Part 2)

Sep 2019 | Al Mazroui
Buss-SMS-Canzler (SMS), one of the international leaders in the thermal separation technology, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Last March, an event was organised for the employees, their friends and family. In June, as part of the celebration, Al Mazroui Engineering, representative of SMS in the UAE, was invited in Germany for a sales meeting, along with the other overseas partners. The three-day event was organised to share and reflect on the market‘s conditions and the company’s latest developments.

SMS’ International Success

SMS invited all its agents to its head office and production facilities in Butzbach (Germany) for an international three-day sales meeting. This kind of event is usually organised at a regional level but for its 100th anniversary, SMS wanted to gather its partners from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, India and South-East Asia. On the first day, Harald Bechmann, managing director of SMS, opened the convention by welcoming the attendees: “We have been cooperating with most of you for many years and it is a particular pleasure to see you all together after ten years.”

The managing director reminded the audience of the importance for SMS of technical achievements, constant innovations and its employees' expertise (see part 1). Moreover, he insisted that the company's international success wouldn't be possible without the cooperation of its international agents. “They support us with discretion and experience to successfully sell our products” he declared.

It was also the occasion for the German enterprise to inform its worldwide partners on its latest developments and projects. SMS will soon deliver the larger order of its history: ten horizontal thin film dryers and ten linear dryers for a sewage sludge drying plant in Shanghai, sold for 20.5 million euros.

On the second day of the event, the agents were taken to a tour of SMS’ workshop for practical demonstrations. The idea was to give an insight of the assembly work done by the employees and thus have a better understanding of the industry.

Al Mazroui Engineering Represented the UAE

During his presentation of SMS’s activities in the UAE, Walid Agha, application engineer for Al Mazroui Engineering, explained there was a recovery in the oil price in 2018. Moreover, the projects’ outlook slightly recovered in the first quarter of 2019. He is optimistic that the regional market will overcome the challenges it recently faced and that SMS will continue to expand in the region.

Part of the Al Mazroui Group, Al Mazroui Engineering (ME) is the exclusive agent of SMS in the UAE and the Middle East since 2008. For more than thirty years, the company’s mission has been to supply reliable precise-engineered industrial solutions. The Abu-Dhabi based enterprise offers its expertise to various fields such as: the oil and gas industry, chemical processing, water and power generation. AME provides repairs, conversions, wear protection systems and training both in-house and on-site.

On the last day, SMS organised a visit of the Eberbach Abbey, in Eltville. Filled with history, this Cistercian monastery was founded in 1136 and was secularised in 1803. This is where interior scenes of the famous movie The Name of the Rose with Sean Connery were shot. The occasion for SMS and its partners from all over the world to end the three-day event on a more festive note.
